Free — takes 20 seconds

What you need, and where you are.

What's going on (pain, a broken tooth, a cleaning, dentures, braces for a kid), who it's for, your county, and your coverage — Medicaid, Medicare, a dental plan, or none.

Free. Takes a few seconds.

Why this exists

The tooth that costs $180 today costs $2,000 in six months.

Most people without dental coverage wait until it hurts, then pay the emergency price. Florida has dental schools, sliding-scale clinics and donated-care programs that most people have never heard of. This lists the ones that fit you and tells you what to ask so the estimate doesn't double in the chair.

Common questions

My tooth really hurts, what should I do first?

If you have swelling in your face or neck, fever, or trouble swallowing or breathing, that is an emergency — go to the ER or call 911 first. This tool is not a dentist and does not diagnose; what's wrong only helps it point you toward urgency level and the right kind of clinic in Florida.

Is it really free? Is what I paste stored?

The tool describes itself as free, and the lede says there is no account and nothing is stored. The material also lists a 'Visit pack' at $4.99 per person and a $99/month plan for clinics, schools & senior centers, so some level of service may carry those listed prices — confirm which applies to your use.

My child needs dental work — does Medicaid cover it?

Yes: every child on Florida Medicaid has full dental coverage through a Medicaid dental plan, per Florida AHCA — Medicaid dental. Find the child's assigned dental plan and dentist through AHCA, and ask the county health department about school-based sealant programs, which exist in many counties.

I'm on Medicare — will it pay for my dental work?

Original Medicare does not cover most dental care, according to Medicare.gov — Dental services. Some Medicare Advantage plans include dental benefits, so it's worth comparing plans during open enrollment with SHINE's help; for dentures, Donated Dental Services and dental schools are the usual lower-cost routes.

I don't have any dental coverage at all — what are my options?

You may qualify for a community health center's sliding-scale dental clinic based on income (find one with the HRSA locator), or reduced-fee care at a supervised dental-school clinic like UF, Nova Southeastern, or LECOM. Free clinic days such as Florida Mission of Mercy also happen through the Florida Dental Association Foundation, and dental discount plans (not insurance — a fee for a negotiated rate) are another option. Always ask for the full fee schedule in writing before treatment starts.
